At the Close of Nominations for Manchester City Council, Labour and the Lib Dems have 96 candidates. There are 80 Tories, 58 Greens and 17 Others.(1 BNP, 6 Indep, 3 respect, 3 Ind Prog Lab, 2 Soc Lab, 1 Dem Soc All, 1 UKIP)
The Liberal Democrats have 30 Women candidates, compared to Labour's 21.
This includes 2 safe seats, Gorton North and Withington, which are fielding 3 women candidates
The Liberal Democrats are fielding 21 candidates from the Ethnic Minorities, compared to 11 by Labour.
Lib Dem Leader Simon Ashley said today, "We are the only party taking Labour on across the whole of Manchester. We are the only party with a slate of candidates that reflects
Manchester's diversity, and we are the only realistic alternative government for Manchester."
