Pay Rise for Chief Executive is Excessive say Lib Dems

2.15.34am GMT Mon 27th Dec 2004

Liberal Democrats today opposed the £30,000 pay rise over three years for Manchester Chief Executive Sir Howard Bernstein.

Labour proposals, which were discussed at today's Personnel Committee, will up Sir Howard's pay from £153K now to £183K by January 2007.

Lib Dem Finance Spokesperson Marc Ramsbottom said today,

"We think Sir Howard's done a good job, but so have thousands of Town Hall staff, and they aren't getting £30,000 extra in addition to their regular rises."

Ends. For more call Marc on 07976 352 513.
