12.00.00am UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 17th Jan 2006

Gorton Liberal Democrat Councillor Bernadette Newing has secured commitments from United Utilities over proposed work on Gorton Reservoirs.

After meeting Cllr Newing, United Utilities promised to:

  • Reduce the time a local bridleway is closed while work is done.

  • Provide a suitable alternative pathway for Park users whilst the bridleway is closed.

  • Give Cllr Newing regular written updates to circulate to local Community groups.

  • Hold a public meeting after initial tests have taken place and United Utilities know the extent of the work needed.

Cllr Newing said today:

"Our meeting was productive and I made United Utilities aware of how important the Park, Fishing Club and Sailing Club are to local people. They promised to be sensitive to local concerns and keep the community informed and involved in what is going on at the reservoirs."
