John Leech has been asking Parliamentary Questions of the Secretary of State for Transport about what discussions have been happening with the Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Authority about the phase 3 of Metrolink, which would extend the current Metrolink network to South Manchester. So far the Government has failed to come up with the required guarantees over funding to make this possible.
"I am determined to keep the issue of Metrolink at the front of the political agenda both in Manchester and in Parliament. It is appalling that the Labour Government have delayed this vital piece of public transport for South Manchester for so long. As everyone who lives here knows traffic congestion is getting worse all the time: and that's bad news for the environment as well as for anyone trying to get around South Manchester. I recently highlighted this problem in a parliamentary debate on congestion in this area."
"Having the Metrolink here in South Manchester would provide easier and quicker public transport and would take cars off the roads. That is why I will not let up until the Government stop stalling the project."
