Liberal Democrat-controlled Stockport Council have introduced a new policy to prevent "infill" housing developments such as houses and flats in gardens and other plots of land in the suburbs.

With the new "Housing Phasing Policy" Stockport Council can now refuse any new planning application for housing developments unless it demonstrates positive regeneration benefits according to five strict criteria.

"Suburbs in Liberal Democrat Stockport are now protected from further overdevelopment, unlike ours in Labour-run Manchester," said Paul Ankers, Lib Dem Candidate for Brooklands.

"The Tories may bluster about overdevelopment in Brooklands, but don't expect any action from them. The Conservative Party is funded by property developers, just like Labour."

"Only when we get a Lib Dem-run council in Manchester will the brakes be put on the overdevelopment of our area."
