"Gas, water, electricity and telephone bills often make up a large part of individual and family budgets, and the prices charges can seem sky-high. However, the charging structures are very complex, making it difficult to compare companies to see who is giving the best deal. That is why I have signed a parliamentary motion which calls for an inquiry into the prices charged and also for it to be made easier to transfer between utility providers."
That this House calls for a Government-led detailed inquiry into the pricing policies of the private utility companies to ensure that the consumer can make informed decisions on the provider and that the process for changing provider is simplified, which should create a truly transparent and competitive market.
