Building Plans in the Village Should Go Public9.52.02pm UTC (GMT +0000) Tue 1st Aug 2006 Plans to redevelop a run-down car park at the centre of Manchester's gay village should be made public, according to city centre Lib Dem Councillor Marc Ramsbottom. He says that although local residents have been told about the plans, other regular visitors who use the village ought to be consulted on the proposals.
"The village is used regularly by thousands of people, many of who will have a view about plans for this important site. I have met with the developers and asked them to consider holding a public meeting so that the plans can be shown to people and they can be invited to comment on what's proposed", said Councillor Ramsbottom. Developers West Properties have outlined major development plans for a hotel, residential apartments, offices and commercial units at the site known as Petros car park which is situated at the corner of Whitworth and Princess Street in city centre Manchester. Plans propose a 24 storey tower that will be one of the highest buildings in this part of the city. The planning application for the site has not yet been submitted, but meetings have been held with local councillors and some local residents and businesses to outline the plans. End
