Lord Mayor of Manchester Councillor James Ashley (1940-2006)

Manchester Liberal Democrats regret to announce the death of the Lord Mayor of Manchester, Councillor James Ashley. James, who was 66, died on Saturday 12th August after a struggle with cancer. James was very proud to have represented Gorton on the Council since 1987, and has served as a Magistrate on the Manchester City bench since 1971. He was elected Manchester's "First Citizen" in May.

Manchester Liberal Democrats send their heartfelt condolences to the Lady Mayoress, Kate Ashley, and to James' brothers, sons and grandchildren. James was much-loved, and will be greatly missed.
