Bin Day is "Never" in part of Whalley Range!11.12.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Thu 24th Aug 2006 Three years ago the Ellesemere & Chandos Residents Group received its first Council grant to improve a muddy walkway from St Werburgh's Road to Egerton Road North. Part of the plan was to install 3 dog-bins to help ensure it remained cleaner and greener, not dirty and smelly. This has been a great success, with dog-bins well used. But the council won't empty the bins and this hardworking residents group is left to raise sufficient sponsorship to pay for the bins to be emptied. The council have even suggested to the group that one solution is to remove the bins! Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant said: "It just sounds crazy. It is absurd for the council to give money for a project which included dog-bins, but then refuse to empty them. If I'd been a councillor at the time I would have said as much. If I asked the council to place a dog-bin at the end of this walk-through on the pavement, the council would be obliged to empty it." "I view dog-fouling as Anti-Social Behaviour. Some irresponsible dog owners even allow their dogs to foul our parks, such as Manley Park, without any thought for the children playing in them." Cllr Grant concluded: "Clearly the Council are not concerned by the dog-fouling problem in Whalley Range. It's just not good enough, so we are fighting hard to get this complacent Council to take action." ENDS
