Manchester's Liberal Democrat Councillors, MP & MEP work hard all year round. We are fighting for better public services, and less waste & extravagance at the Town Hall.

Incompetence Places Signs Where They Cannot Be Read

"It's obvious that Amey, the company installing new lights throughout Manchester in a PFI deal with the Council, know something we don't know. They must know that giants are growing in Chorlton", says Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant.

Street lighting is being replaced in the whole of Manchester. Everyone appreciates the new lights - but what about the notices that were on the old lights? These are being replaced, but in the alley between Egerton Road North and St Werburgh's Rd the signs which warn dog owners not to foul the pavement are set ten feet high and set in a way that means they wouldn't be seen by anyone walking by. Local residents have kept reporting this to the council but have had no response from Amey.

Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant said:

"It seems such a simple thing to replace signs which were on the old columns on to the new ones. These have been put back at a ridiculous height so it is extremely unlikely anyone walking through will see them. It is about getting small things like this right, which will make this lighting scheme a real success. It is the lack of a reply from Amey indicating when the error will be corrected that has so irritated the local residents group and I can understand their frustration."
