Manchester's Liberal Democrat Councillors, MP & MEP work hard all year round. We are fighting for better public services, and less waste & extravagance at the Town Hall.

Planning Enforcement hits Whalley Range

"As the wall around the prestigious veterinary surgery on Wilbraham Road is rebuilt, we can see this part of the road getting better and better", says Whalley Range Liberal Democrat Councillor John Grant.

The Veterinary Surgery on Wilbraham Road, Manchester, is situated in a prominent site as you approach Chorlton centre, not far from the Garden Centre. During the years that the garden centre was closed it came as no surprise that local residents complained it was an eyesore in an area with character. The removal of the fence and the partial demolition of the wall around the Veterinary Surgery just added to the eyesore.

Persistent pressure from Local Liberal Democrat Councillors has resulted in the garden centre re-opening as a business, and the wall at the vets is being rebuilt. Repair of the wall at the Garden Centre would complete the work and make this part of the road smart again.

Lib Dem Councillor John Grant said:

"The partial demolition of the vet's wall did make this corner look awful. I was delighted that the newly appointed council Planning Enforcement Officer agreed and now we see the benefit as the new wall is built. Liberal Democrats have wanted to see a dedicated enforcement officer for some time so are pleased that the council has now made this appointment. I look forward to further evidence of work this officer will get done to improve our area."

He concluded:

"Now we want to see the garden centre wall also repaired to make this approach to Chorlton Centre look even better. I will continue to press to ensure the work is done."
