Labour Have Allowed 30 Manchester Post Offices to Close Despite Lib Dem Opposition

Manchester Lib Dem Leader Councillor Simon Ashley has described as "Breathtaking Hypocrisy" the Labour party's approach to Post Office closures both locally and nationally.

Cllr Ashley said:

"This is breathtaking hypocrisy by both Labour Government and Council. By keeping these Post Office closures secret till after May's elections, the Labour Government are pulling the wool over the eyes of local residents. If the Labour Government accepted that Post Offices were essential to the wellbeing of local communities, they would stop these closures by using their majority shareholding."

Cllr Ashley concluded:

"Then Manchester's Labour Council says it will lobby against closures, when it has a long track record of being totally ignored by the Post Office in the past. This has led to 30 Post Offices being lost in Manchester in the past 10 years, with even more proposed closures due in June."
