Longsight Councillor Liaqat Ali Calls for Cleaner Streets in Longsight

Longsight Lib Dem Councillor Liaqat Ali has condemned Labour's 100 Day Challenge, launched this week, as a "pre-election publicity gimmick." Manchester's Lib Dem Councillors are calling for a "Clean up Manchester" campaign to clean up the city and recycle more all-year-round, not just for the 100 days before the local elections.

Lib Dem Longsight Councillor Liaqat Ali said:

"Liberal Democrats want to see a cleaner, greener Manchester all year round. That means better street-cleaning services week-in, week-out. Only then will we tackle Manchester's rat infestation, with rat numbers up by 40%."

Speaking recently at a Manchester City Council meeting, Cllr Ali called for action in Longsight:

"We feel that the very important campaign to clean up Manchester must be a 365-day project."

"As an active Ward Councillor for the Longsight area, I regularly report severe dumping in back entries and this problem occurs throughout the year."

Cllr Ali concluded:

"Lib Dems expect more Green Action for Longsight - if it can be done for 100 days, why not 365 days of the year?"
