Lib Dems in Levenshulme Welcome News that Tesco Will Open on Site of Former Somerfield Supermarket

Rumours that Tesco have bought the old Somerfield store at 988-990 Stockport Road, Levenshulme were confirmed today when local Councillors received notification of a licence application. Local residents have until the 10th of July to make representations regarding the opening hours.

Local Liberal Democrat Councillors Simon Ashley and John Commons welcomed Tesco to Levenshulme. Levenshulme Councillor John Commons said:

"This is good news for Levenshulme. Local people greatly missed the loss of the previous supermarket at this location. We want a strong retail outlet at our heart, and Tesco will provide it!"

Lib Dem Leader and Gorton South Councillor Simon Ashley added:

"The local Councillors have recently met consultants who are writing a development plan for Levenshulme District Centre. We hope that Tesco's decision to open in Levenshulme will help Stockport Road attract more customers and businesses to the area."
