Labour Rejected Cllr Eakins' Proposal to Make CCTV Funding More Accessible to Local Residents

Northenden Liberal Democrat Councillor Martin Eakins has slammed Labour Town hall bosses for rejecting his plea to make it easier for communities to bid for CCTV in their area.

At this week's Council meeting, Labour voted against Cllr Eakins' motion to combine funding for CCTV in one easily-understood funding pot, and to simplify applications for funds.

Cllr Eakins, who is the Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Wythenshawe and Sale East, said today:

"Local people in Northenden are concerned that our CCTV may be under threat. Labour should put the needs of the people of Northenden before party politics."

Local Campaigner Mary Di Mauro added:

"It is a fact that CCTV cuts crime. At a time of recession, we should be supporting traders and not forcing them to pay for something they can't afford."
