Popular Local Campaigner Lianne Williams Selected As Liberal Democrat Candidate for Didsbury West12.00.00am GMT Mon 5th Jan 2009
Popular Didsbury Village resident Lianne Williams has today, (Monday 5th January 2009), been announced as the Liberal Democrat Candidate for the Didsbury West Ward City Council By-Election to be held on Thursday 29th January 2009. The By-Election has been called following the tragic death of Didsbury West City Councillor Neil Trafford in a car accident in November. Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Lianne Williams, who lives in the Didsbury West Ward on Crossway in Didsbury Village, was born in Withington Hospital, educated at Didsbury Church of England Primary School, Trinity High School, Fielden College and Manchester Metropolitan University and now works as a Parliamentary Assistant to Withington MP John Leech - helping John with issues across his Constituency. Lianne Williams said following her selection: "I would like to thank the many people from Didsbury and West Didsbury who have been in touch to express their sorrow at losing such a strong, campaigning Councillor as Neil Trafford. The circumstances leading to the By-Election make it a sad time for all of us." "As Liberal Democrat Candidate for the Didsbury West Ward I will work with Councillors Graham Shaw and Mark Clayton and our MP John Leech to redouble our campaigning on the key issues for Didsbury and West Didsbury." "I will fight to save and improve our vital green spaces - last year it was Marie Louise Gardens, this year it is Bradley Fold Allotments off Ford Lane. I will work to halt the plans of Labour Town Hall Education bosses to close the excellent Ewing School on Central Road, and, I will campaign to bring the Metrolink to West Didsbury and Didsbury Village." Didsbury West Liberal Democrat Councillor Graham Shaw added: "It is a tragic situation that has led to this By-Election but I am very pleased that a campaigning Candidate has come forward for the Liberal Democrats in Lianne Williams. Lianne has grown up and lives in Didsbury and cares about our area. I have no hesitation in recommending Lianne to local residents in West Didsbury and Didsbury." Fellow Liberal Democrat Councillor for Didsbury West Mark Clayton said: "Lianne Williams is from Didsbury and is committed to improving our area. Lianne's experience of working with John Leech on local issues will prove vital in continuing to make the voice of Didsbury and West Didsbury heard in the Town Hall if she gets the backing of local residents in January's By-Election. Lianne has my full support." ENDS
