South Manchester MP John Leech joins inquiry into Aid Effectiveness

10.02.27am BST (GMT +0100) Wed 8th Jul 2009

Local MP, John Leech, will this week take part in a cross-party parliamentary panel to look at the effectiveness of global aid.

The new initiative sees Mr Leech, a member of Parliament's Debt, Aid and Trade group team up with other parliamentarians and non-governmental organisations to explore the most effective means of aid distribution and produce a report detailing its findings.

Mr. Leech said:

'The effectiveness of global aid is crucial in the fight against poverty and civil unrest in developing countries. I am pleased to have been asked to sit on this panel and I hope that we will be able to come up with some new ideas to find the most effective ways of channelling aid in order to develop communications and create a more cohesive world.'
